This is the first of two podcasts presenting some little known sides of Motown records – like the big name acts you probably didn’t know were on the Motown family of labels. And even though Motown Records was associated with some of the greatest Black singers and groups of all time, it also was home to many White acts who achieved success there.

Motown Records founder Barry Gordy was a gifted songwriter, arranger, producer, businessman, and visionary, but much of his success was relative – or rather relatives. You’ll hear how three generations of his family helped him build the Motown empire.

And we’ll also feature some surprising firsts that have helped the Motown legend last for more than half a century.
