Rare & Scratchy Rock ‘N Roll

This episode highlights the history of a group that made history in the late 1960s. They were the Lovin’ Spoonful.

Their first seven single releases on 45 rpm records were top ten hits on Billboard.  They called their tunes “good time music.” And we’ll have a good time sampling every one of their hits, including the originals they covered, and hit versions of their songs by other artists.

Plus, we’ll track the Lovin’ Spoonful and their leader, John Sebastian’s connections to famous rock and roll acts that were their contemporaries. They included Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, the Beach Boys, the Monkees, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and the Doors, among many others…as well as some legendary Hollywood film makers such as Woody Allen and Francis Ford Coppola, too.

And we’ll speculate on how the Lovin’ Spoonful got their name. There’s a lot to love about the Lovin’ Spoonful, and you’ll hear it all right here.
