Rare & Scratchy Rock ‘N Roll
Why the blues? Because as you’ll hear, it was one of the cornerstones upon which rock and roll was built. You’ll hear artists such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, Cream, Kinks, Jethro Tull, and Fleetwood Mac. You know their names. You might not know the blues roots of some of their music. We’ll also present snippets of selected U.S. blues originals by stateside singers whom these U.K. artists emulated, such as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, and Bo Diddley.
We were inspired to create this episode after reading London Reign Over Me by Steven Tow. That book relates how England’s capital city built the foundation for what is now called classic rock and explains how American blues was a key building block in this musical metamorphosis. We’ll also interview Steven Tow about that.
